"Their ability to recruit new members, provide consistently high numbers of high quality volunteers and their dedication to bridging the gap between the GLBT community and the larger community has brought them to a level of prominence and respect unusual for so young an organization."

Unsung Hero Award: Burgundy Crescent Volunteers
"The success of Mautner Project programs relies heavily on the strength of our volunteers. For this reason, we are especially proud to honor the hard work and positive impact of our Unsung Heroes: the Burgundy Crescent Volunteers (BCV). One of the most innovative LGBT organizations in the country, BCV brings LGBT people together in a social setting to help gay and gay-friendly community-based organizations."

Capital Pride Hero
"As a co-founder and president of Burgundy Crescent Volunteers, Jonathan Blumenthal has been instrumental in energizing the LGBT volunteer community. He has brought hundreds of volunteers and organizations together to the betterment of both and the community as a whole. Since its founding, Burgundy Crescent has provided more than 39,000 volunteer hours to organizations throughout the D.C. metropolitan area. BCV, which has 2,600 members, has provided volunteers to the community, all at no cost to the organizations that benefit from them."
Capital Pride Heroes Reception, June 8, 2006
Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions, service, and leadership in the Metro DC GLBT community.
"By providing volunteers, Burgundy Crescent has helped literally hundreds of small, medium, and large non-profits grow and thrive. What struck me about the volunteers that showed up at our offices was their diversity in gender, age, and race. And, boy, they always seemed to get along. The secret is: how does Jonathan (and his partner and BCV co-founder Eric Cohen) manage to make Burgundy Crescent so successful? From the outside it seems almost effortless. What ever the secret is, the community is a better place because of Jonathan and the Burgundy Crescent Volunteers" -Jim Marks
David Mariner, Executive Director

Metro DC GLBT Community Center, September 10, 2009
Paul Ludeman Volunteer of the Year Award
"BCV has grown to a network of over 4000 volunteers who make themselves available to make our community work. Their reach is enormous. If you have been to a gala, run a race, received a call from HRC, picked up a safer sex kit, had a meal delivered to your home, or enjoyed the cherry blossoms at the tidal basin, BCV has had a hand in it. Their vision to make volunteering a social event has enriched our community and made it a better place to live."
J. Max Barger, Board Member of Capital Area Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce at the 20th Anniversary Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental, April 9, 2010
