Looking for volunteers for a special event or for ongoing volunteer activities for your gay or gay-friendly non-profit organization?  Send an email to jonathan@burgundycrescent.org to make the arrangements.

Your first question might be about our unusual name.  We had such a hard time coming up with a name that hasn't been used before and would be inclusive of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender men and women, we simply made up a name that sounded nice and would lend itself to a classy, yet whimsical, logo.  Our name has no meaning, really!  We invite you to read more about our group and join us if it sounds good to you.

So if "Burgundy Crescent" doesn't mean anything, what is BCV?

The founders met each other through an organization called GLOVES (Gay, Lesbian, and Other Volunteer Singles), which has since ceased to exist.  We enjoyed the idea of a social volunteer group and thought it would be fun to bring it back to life.  We want it to be fully inclusive and decided to include couples as well as singles.  So whether you are single or coupled, alone or with your partner, you are welcome to join us for volunteer activities that support our community, both gay and gay-friendly.

Mission Statement

The purpose of Burgundy Crescent Volunteers (BCV) is twofold.  First, we are a source of volunteers for local and national gay and gay-friendly community organizations in the Washington, DC area.  Second, we bring gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender singles and couples together for volunteer activities that are social in nature.

Founded in February 2001, Burgundy Crescent Volunteers was incorporated as a non-profit organization on January 24, 2002 as Burgundy Crescent Volunteers, Inc. ("BCV" or "Burgundy Crescent Volunteers").  The board includes Jonathan Blumenthal, Eric Cohen, Nikki DiPalma, Ned Read, Carol Dopp, Sharon Marshall, and Russell Foster.  In addition, we have a Community Outreach and Diversity Committee (Sharon Marshall and Lorenzo Taylor, Co-Chairs), and a Social Committee (Richard Parker, Chair).

The BCV Board is pleased to announce that the IRS has determined that BCV is exempt from federal income tax and that contributions to BCV are tax-deductible (commonly referred to as "being granted 501(c)(3) status").  If you have any questions or would like to make a contribution, please contact Jonathan Blumenthal, Board President, at jonathan@burgundycrescent.org, or Ned Read, Treasurer, at ned@burgundycrescent.org.

Volunteering

Our goal is to have volunteer activities that will appeal to a wide range of people and we are always open to suggestions.

We are pleased to announced that several BCV members have offered to be ASL contacts for deaf or hard of hearing volunteers at upcoming volunteer opportunities.  If you are deaf or hard of hearing and would like to volunteer, please let us know when you sign up to volunteer and we will make every effort to match you with another BCV members who can sign ASL.  BCV would like to make every effort to welcome GLBT individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.  To do this, we are asking BCV members who are proficient in American Sign Language (or learning ASL) to email jonathan@burgundycrescent.org to "register" themselves as potential contacts for deaf (or hard of hearing) volunteers.  Thanks to longtime BCV member, Mary Koehler (who is proficient in ASL) for helping us make these arrangements.

If you need to know whether a volunteer location is wheelchair accessible, please don't hesitate to send an email to jonathan@burgundycrescent.org.
